Cedar Hill is a small town that’s a little bit country, a little bit uptown – which makes Shenandoah a perfect fit. Located in the southwest corner of Dallas County on Joe Pool Lake and the White Rock Escarpment, Cedar Hill sits on the highest point between the Red River and the Gulf of Mexico.
Within its 36 square miles of trees and hills, the city offers a rich heritage and an abundance of recreational, cultural and educational opportunities. The 7,500-acre Joe Pool Lake features fishing, boating, sailing, water sports and marinas. On the lake’s eastern shore is Cedar Hill State Park, the second most visited state park in Texas. More than 20 other park and recreation facilities, including a new recreation center, promise something for everyone.
Cedar Hill’s revitalized historic downtown is home to unique boutiques, shops, galleries and restaurants. The district, which boasts turn-of-the-century architecture, is undergoing a revitalization effort, with an emphasis on preservation.
Children living in Cedar Hill attend the 5A Cedar Hill Independent School District or one of several local private schools. Students have the opportunity to further their education close to home, at Northwood University, a business management college located in the wooded hills near Joe Pool Lake on a beautiful 350-acre campus, or Cedar Valley Center, a community college satellite campus.
